Welcome to the First Weekend of 2018
Happy new year everyone. At 7PM in Ireland and the UK, or 2PM Eastern today, it will be my pleasure to Welcome you to the first Weekend of 2018. Together, we’ll end the first working week after the holiday period, and look forward to the Weekend ahead. I’ll set you up for it with 2 hours of feel good quality tunes, and plenty of friendly banter.
All our regular features will be on offer too, such as:
• Kick-start. We’ll set the pace for the Weekend ahead, beginning with a track released in the US in 1983, which also became a big hit in the UK the following year.
• The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. You’ll hear 3 versions of the same song, by 3 different artists. You can tell me if you like too, which one is Good, Bad or Ugly. It’s a great story song this week.
• Weekend Rewind. Taking you back to good things that you did in times gone by, through memories and music. Janis Ian told us she learned the truth at 17. However, turning 18 gives us a lot more. You can legally have a drink, stay out late without the fear of being grounded by your parents and even get married if you wish. Today, I’ll rewind back to the time when I turned 18, share some of the music that was around at the time, and tell you some stories too. In the usual way, I invite you to share your music memories and stories too, from when you became 18.
