Who were the first radio DJ's in the world to play the entire Sergeant Pepper album? Find out in flashback 67!
Prime Minister Harold Wilson announced that the United Kingdom had decided to apply for EEC membership. Manchester United won the Football League First Division title. Sir Francis Chichester arrived in Plymouth after completing his single-handed sailing voyage around the world in his yacht, in nine months and one day. And The first Spring Bank Holiday occurred on a fixed date of the last Monday in May, replacing the former Whitsun holiday in England and Wales. All of those events happened in the month of May 1967. But probably the most anticipated event of the year was the release of The Beatles album Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Fifty years on, people are still talking about it, and so are we on Team-FM!
At 4 PM UK time on Sunday, 11 AM US Eastern, you can hear a special documentary about the making of the iconic album. Hear The Beatles talk about the album and producer George Martin walks you through the intricate detail given to the arranging, recording and mixing processes.
Then, an hour later, I present Our Time, Flashback 67! Not only will you hear alternate takes and amazing 2017 remixes of many of the Sergeant Pepper tracks, but I'll capture the atmosphere of 1967 by playing songs by other artists who were popular on both the BBC and pirate radio stations. All the songs will have been chart hits or new releases in that month. Together, we'll also hear a rare interview with the Tremeloes who were number 1 with "Silence is Golden".
Added to that, you'll hear audio clips of news events, commercials, and we'll visit the movies to hear which films were popular at the time.
Who were the first radio DJ's in the world to play the entire Sergeant Pepper album? You can find out by hearing recordings from the time, and also learn the interesting story behind how Radio London became the first station to premiere the album.
